Modality as an instrument for discourse analysis

I must anticipate that I will not present a discourse analysis, in the strictest sense, my intention is to show that the analysis framework of modality can be applied as an instrument for such analysis, and for this purpose I present fragments of texts.

It is the action through which a living creature introduces into its body organic and inorganic substances which will give it the nutrients it requires to function adequately. Human beings, as members of the animal kingdom, must satisfy their biological needs, but as members of a community they must also be guided by patterns of conduct, organization and ideology acquired through their powers of adaptation throughout history.

Interethnic history in Nahua identity. The war against the French, called Analtekos

The process of constructing identities necessarily involvesthe dynamics of social relations in which different groups have been involved throughout their history. In the case of the pueblos indios (Native American settlements), the history of intherethnic relations is a central theme in the definition a people’s own identity and the construction of the “other”. This process includes a reciprocal dialogue between social groups, which directly or indirectly embodies elements of the manifestation of this interrelationship in different moments in the history of the groups.
