For the Mexico of the Porfiriato, the German Empire was growing importance not only as a source of capital, but also and above all as one of its main markets for export products – particularly coffee – but also raw materials for pharmaceutical industry, sisal and timber. More important than exports was Germany’s role as a provider of technology, mainly machinery.
